Moving Hearts

Live in Dublin

Rubyworks RWXDVD60; 2007

Simultaneously issued with the live album, this DVD not only provides a memorable account of the band’s Dublin reunion gigs, but a detailed, interview-filled rendition of its history, as well as Dónal Lunny’s descriptions of the tunes involved in its live set and explanation of their sources.

Live videos of Irish traditional bands can never be excitement personified, especially one lacking a singer, but this really does offer footage which captures numerous spine-tingling musical moments, not least the awesome interplay between Davy Spillane’s pipes and Keith Donald’s sax on McBride’s and a thunderous rendition of The Storm.

Well-directed throughout, this is a ‘must-have’ release for anyone interested in seeing just how far Irish traditional musicians, rockers and jazzers can push the envelope in coordination and still come up smiling.
